Trades and service businesses

Websites for trades that do more than look better.

Clear service pages, better enquiries, and practical tools built around how your business actually works.

How an enquiry moves

  1. 01EnquiryService, details, photos
  2. 02RequestArrives already sorted
  3. 03EstimatePrepared from the details
  4. 04Your reviewNothing sends without it
  5. 05ApprovalSigned, deposit, invoice

Optional. A site can use all of it, some of it, or none of it.

The basics still matter

The website is only part of it.

A trades site still has to do the ordinary things well.

  • Services a visitor can understand in one pass
  • Writing that sounds like the person doing the work
  • Enough proof to feel like a real business
  • Photos of actual jobs, edited properly
  • A mobile version that behaves on a phone in a driveway
  • An obvious way to get in touch

But the bigger opportunity is usually what happens after someone decides to get in touch.

Make the website useful

A site can do more than sit there.

None of this is mandatory. It is a list of things a website can take off your hands when they fit the way you already work.

01

Get better job information

Ask the right questions before you call the customer back. Instead of a name and a one-line message, the site can collect the service, the situation, the address, and the details you would otherwise have to phone for.

  • The customer picks the service or problem
  • The site asks the follow-up questions you would ask anyway
  • You open the request already knowing most of it

02

Let customers send photos

See the problem before deciding what needs to happen next. A few photos answer most of the questions a phone call would.

03

Prepare estimates

Use the submitted job details to help prepare an estimate. You review it before it goes anywhere near the customer.

04

Booking and appointment requests

Let customers choose the right service and request a time, instead of trading messages about when you are free.

05

Approvals and payments

Support estimate approval, signatures, and deposits where that makes sense for the work you do.

06

After the job

Support invoicing and review requests from the same flow, instead of another disconnected process.

Quote & Estimate Workflow

From enquiry to estimate, without the back and forth.

This is the piece most trades websites do not have. The customer describes the job, picks the service, adds photos, and leaves their details. The request arrives with the information already sorted, and an estimate can be prepared from what they sent.

You edit it, you check it, and you decide whether it goes out.

  1. 01

    Enquiry

The customer chooses the service or problem that fits.

  2. 02

    Photos and details

They describe the job in their own words and add photos.

  3. 03

    Estimate prepared

What they submitted is used to help prepare the estimate.

  4. 04

    You review

You edit the estimate and check it over.

  5. 05

    Customer receives it

Nothing is sent until you approve it.

Then, where it applies

  • The customer approves or signs
  • A deposit is collected where that is set up
  • The invoice goes out when the work is done
  • A review request follows the finished job

Built by me

TradePulse, a tool I built, powers the estimating workflow.

I can integrate TradePulse, an estimating tool for contractors that I built, into the new site. Customers describe the job and add photos, and those details flow into TradePulse, where you review, edit, and approve the estimate before anything is sent.

It can also handle estimate approvals, signatures, deposits and payments, invoicing, and review requests.

Want to use TradePulse on its own? Visit trytradepulse.com (opens in a new tab)

The part that matters

You review the estimate before anything is sent to your customer.

Nothing goes out on its own. The estimate is drafted from the job details, you change whatever needs changing, and it only reaches the customer once you approve it.

Try it

Walk through the workflow.

This is an example of the whole path, from the customer picking a problem to the review request after the job. It runs entirely in your browser on demo data.

What is the problem?

On a real site this list is your services. Pick one of these example jobs to walk through the workflow.

What I handle

More than the visual design.

Most of the work on a trades site is deciding what it should say and making sure the practical parts are set up properly. I do that part too.

The same person who talks with you about the site is the person designing it, building it, launching it, and looking after it afterwards.

Working out what it should say

  • Deciding what the site needs to say first
  • Organizing services so they are easy to scan
  • Structuring service-area pages
  • Writing and editing the content
  • Choosing and editing strong photos

Building and launching it

  • Making the mobile version work properly
  • Setting up and testing the forms
  • Domains and DNS
  • Help with business email setup
  • Analytics setup, basic SEO setup, and deployment

Looking after it

  • Hosting and technical maintenance
  • Security and dependency updates
  • Reasonable text and photo edits
  • Checking the forms still work
  • Being reachable when something needs attention

Basic SEO

Set up properly at launch.

Included

  • Sensible page structure and headings
  • Titles and descriptions that read like a person wrote them
  • A service and service-area structure search engines can follow
  • A sitemap and clean indexing
  • Basic search setup at launch

Not sold here

  • Backlink campaigns
  • Monthly SEO retainers
  • Ranking guarantees
  • Content farms

I do not sell ongoing SEO. The setup is part of building the site properly.

Pricing

Two ways to start.

Standard site

C$199/month

For 12 months. No large upfront build payment. After the twelfth payment, the website is yours.

  • The full design and build
  • Hosting and technical maintenance
  • Reasonable text and photo edits
  • Form testing and security updates
  • Help with domain and DNS issues
  • Support when something needs attention

Prefer to own it outright from the start? C$2,200 upfront.

Own it upfront or after 12 months.

Pay C$2,200 upfront and you own the website from launch. Choose C$199/month and ownership transfers after the 12th payment.

After that, website care is optional at C$69/month. It keeps the hosting, maintenance, edits, and support running. If you do not need it, you can host and manage the site elsewhere.

Site + Quote & Estimate Workflow

C$299/month

For the first 12 months. Everything in the standard site, plus the integrated quote and estimate workflow.

  • Everything in the standard site
  • Job intake with photos and details
  • Estimate preparation from the request
  • Your review and approval before anything sends
  • Approval, signature, and deposit steps where they fit
  • Invoicing and review requests after the job

Buying the site upfront instead? C$2,200 for the website, plus C$100/month for the workflow during the first year.

You own the website. The workflow stays managed.

Pay for the website upfront and you own it from launch. Choose the monthly option and the website becomes yours after the 12th payment.

The Quote & Estimate Workflow stays an ongoing managed service because the software and API services behind it keep running.

After the first year, keeping website care and the workflow active is C$169/month.

Stop that service and you keep the ordinary website. The workflow stops, and you can move to the C$69/month website-care plan or manage the site elsewhere.

Prices are in Canadian dollars. Custom tools and integrations beyond the defined workflow are quoted separately.

Custom functionality

Other tools, where they earn their place.

If something practical would genuinely help the way you work, it can usually be built into the site.

  • Booking and appointment requests
  • File and photo upload
  • Quote and intake forms
  • Review requests
  • Customer portals
  • Job-status pages
  • Calculators
  • Service selectors
  • Interactive pricing tools

More complex tools and integrations are quoted separately.
